Social Studies

The curriculum of Social Studies

Social studies 9 will be focusing on the year 1750 to 1919, where the world is constantly evolving. Students will learn about things such as the industrial revolution, French revolution, and the American revolution. The course also teaches about the aftermath of colonialism on the indigenous peoples in Canada, and how it still influences people now.

Assessment of Social Studies

In Social studies 9, students are assessed on how well the can think critically, analyze sources, and express their understanding through many diverse methods. Methods will include written assignments, projects, presentations, and class discussions. The Core Competencies are also used to measure whether the student has the sufficient understanding of the content.

Interesting things about Social Studies 

Social studies is a important studies to learn because it enables students to understand history of the world. By studying revolutions and movements, students gain a deeper understanding about citizenship and justice. The course also encourages students to think about their roles in society and how they can contribute to the world.

Why learn Social Studies

A extremely interesting thing about Social studies 9 is how it connects some parts of the world to other parts. Students learn major global events such as the French revolution and industrial revolution which took place in different countries. Students also learn about many diverse coutures that make up Canada, which also has many parts focousing on the First Peoples of Canada. This course shows how understanding the past is very important for us to making a better future.
